Quiz: Can you pick out the "white Hispanic" amidst all the Hispanic Hispanics?

With immigration reform and Puerto Rican statehood much in the news as Republicans ponder how to leave behind their image as racist white men, I thought I'd go through my recent posts to find Hispanic experts in the media who have their finger on the pulse of What Hispanics Want, who know deep in their Latino bones how the masses of la raza feel. It's time for white people to stop ignoring Hispanics just because they look different and lack White Privilege! Fortunately, the press assiduously brings to our attention these fresh new voices with their fresh new kind of face. A gallery:

"But of course, moron. Could all those English-speaking Italian-Americans back in the 1940's successfully run for U.S president?"

Presidential candidates tended to come from a certain political milieu. From the earliest days, foreigners traveling in America noted the obsession of Americans with party politics. Southern and Eastern Europeans came from non-democratic societies; the notion of self-government was mystifying to them. The Irish participated, already familiar with the language and habits of Anglo-Saxons, but most immigrants were not active, and of course "American" voters trusted their own "kind." As Italians and Irish and Jews trusted their own "kind."
Voting for WASPs was a habit. Even Irish Al Smith could not be elected in 1928, and Kennedy's dad could just barely steal enough votes in 1960. Italians were not pols too often. 1950s Italians were Annette Funicello, Fabian, Gina Lollabrigida, Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, the Pope, Fermi, La Guardia, DaVinci, and a lot of singers. They were not associated with politics (well, the mob was of course, but that's another story), and you are right, they would have had a hard run to the White House. But many ethnicities with non-English Isle/Germanic sounding names, would have had a problem before 1964. As someone has already said here, any "discrimination" they may have faced--and of course they did in some instances, as did other white ethnics--is just so irrelevant and paltry nowadays. It's like this Nick. The Swiss have jokes about their different Cantons. People look different among them. Talk different, It's almost like they are different races. It sounds silly to outsiders, but it's real to them. But should Switzerland become invaded with, say, Congolese, suddenly all those differences would become as silly and small as they really are. Because even with all those differences they could still make Switzerland. But with millions of sub-Saharan Africans, they will quite a more profound "differences" to deal with, and Switzerland as we know it would cease to exist.
Get it?
Now please. I don't know what identity you choose, but whatever it is, you'll get more goodies if it is anything but white. Everytime I look at a job application that touts its EEO qualities and then askes for race, I am SO tempted to ask--and is this so you can discriminate against whites?

Nick, your rant is so -- yesterday -- so -- 1940s.

"Herbert Huber (Hoover), not a WASP. Dwight Eisenhower, not a WASP. Van Buren, not a WASP."

I think Germans and Dutch (and Scandinavians) are functionally "WASP." By strict standards, Scottish/Scotch-Irish/Welsh people aren't WASPs either but I doubt anyone excludes Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson.

Hispanics are white, you idiots. The thing that people call hispanic in America are really indians. They look nothing like the original spaniards.

"If you are a white hispanic, aren't you just white?"

No, they're just Hispanic, because there's no such thing as a white Hispanic. Nobody in those photos is white, and it's pretty clear to me.

Dear crap, you people are lost. Hispanic simply means you come from a spanish-speaking cultural background. It is not a race. White (most hispanics are white, Europe is where white people come from, it is also where Spain is, and SPANISH is Spain's native language), black and asian are the only 3 races there are. Zimmerman's mother imparted her language and culture onto him, hence he is a white hispanic.

I had to re-read this to understand the sarcasm. Very nice.

'White Hispanic' simply means white with Spanish-speaking ancestry, not this "half white half hispanic" sociopolitical BS the liberal media has been regurgitating.

All full-blooded ethnic Hispanics are white. Everyone else - Amerindian, black, mixed - is just culturally Hispanic, the same way that Black Americans are culturally, but not ethnically, Anglo.

The only reason why George Zimmerman may not be considered white is because he's part black, not because he's "half Hispanic."

You're either being facetious or an idiot.

Am I missing something here or are you mentally challenged?

Hispanic isn't a race. It never was, so this post is just completely pointless.

What do you mean 'pick out the white Hispanics from the Hispanic Hispanics'? That makes no sense.

You must be referring to mulatto and Amerind people, but I wouldn't refer to those people as "Hispanic Hispanics." I'd refer too them as mulattoes and Amerinds.

The white people on this post are indeed Hispanic because they speak Spanish (that's all the term has ever meant!) despite the fact that you want so badly for Hispanic to mean brown so that you can feel superior to anyone who speaks the god forsaken language.

Suit yourself, spread disinformation if it boosts your self-image, but no matter how many people you deceive reality won't change: speaking Spanish is not a damn race.

Ps: Zimmerman is not Caucasian (no, he isn't racially 'Hispanic' either) he's triracial.
