Prosecution of Zimmerman increasingly farcical

From the New York Times:
Prosecutors in Zimmerman Trial Ask Jury to Disregard Comments
By CARA BUCKLEY
SANFORD, Fla. — Prosecutors in the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman scrambled Tuesday to undo damage to their case by one of their leading witnesses, a Sanford police officer who interviewed the defendant hours after he fatally shot Trayvon Martin.
The witness, Officer Chris Serino, had testified under cross-examination on Monday afternoon that Mr. Zimmerman seemed to be telling the truth when he said he had fired his gun in self-defense. The officer’s remarks made for a dramatic moment in the trial — and clearly benefited the defense — but drew no immediate objection from the prosecutors. The court then recessed for the day.
But early on Tuesday, citing case law, the prosecution successfully argued that Officer Serino’s comments about Mr. Zimmerman’s truthfulness should be disregarded by the jury. The judge then instructed the jurors, who are being sequestered during the trial, to ignore the officer’s statement—nearly 17 hours after he made it.
Officer Serino’s testimony, in the second week of the trial in Seminole County Court, was the latest setback for prosecutors, whose witnesses have repeatedly helped bolster the defense’s case.

The prosecutions seems to be getting farther away from "beyond a reasonable doubt" with each witness it calls.

Are we ever going to see the admission that this whole PaS case (pardon my Bonfire jargon) should be cause for an agonizing reappraisal of the racial delusions and racial animus of those who hold the Megaphone?

Interesting, I just posted similar thoughts on the LA Times story acting shocked that the police seem to be helping the defense.

Not nearly as well thought out, well written, or even sober as Mr. Sailer (is it doctor? I apologize if so), but maybe someone will like it.

Steve, it will never happen.

First, in California, Whites are now a minority. So trumpets the LAT, Fox, etc. And that's coming to every other State. So non-Whites will LOVE LOVE LOVE putting on Whites, and if none can be found, "fake Whites" on trial for anything and everything. Two minutes of hate, every day.

This is particularly true for groups that can't compete with Whites let alone Asians in cognitive areas (on average): Blacks and Hispanics.

Next, the alliance of rich White elites and non-White masses of impoverished favela dwellers requires periodic sacrifice of Whites (best, see Paula Deen) or putative "fake Whites" (Zimmerman) to keep things together. Non-White masses demand the equivalent of Christians being fed to the lions in the Roman Colosseum, or gladiator fights to the death. So there's that.

Elite Whites will eventually all be purged and killed, they can't be non-White no matter how much they Eat-Pray-Love, etc. but they delude themselves like many. Most Jews in WWII obediently went to the trains, camps, and gas chambers, because they were in the habit of obeying and even knowing the truth could not will themselves to fight. That is likely the fate of the elites but they delude themselves because they are not emotionally nor physically nor mentally fit for fighting.

Don't worry. Zimmerman will be convicted -- an all female jury is a portrait of surrender to authority, not the least of which is the desire to please authority and prevent riots. Which is an absurdity -- Blacks will riot regardless of the verdict.

Indeed show trials of those who do not submit to the new overlords (I seriously doubt America will ever see another White male as President) are likely in the offing.

Could be liberals are desperate to have Zimmerman convicted because they fear blacks rioting and burning cities down. Liberals are concentrated in cities.

It does seem like the prosecution is acting like some kind of Manchurian Candidate - sabotaging their own case. That doesn't make much sense but if Zimmerman is acquitted, as now seems likely, I expect to hear just that paranoid accusation from the commentators on MSNBC.

They are just going through the motions. That's what you do when the DA hands you a one-eyed, three-legged dog of a case that answers to "lucky," that never would have gone to trial - the cops didn't even want to charge him - but for the mau-maus and their metrosexual champions in the media; you go through the motions, and act all shocked when your witnesses torpedo your case. Then you write a book and do the talk show circuit and lie through your teeth about the case until you retire.

Libs run the media. If they didn't want negro riots all across America, they wouldn't be playing every moment of the trial on the networks...all the networks.

It's not like blacks in general would even know what was going on with the trial, if the TV wasn't wall-to-wall Zimmerman trial.

The logical conclusion seems to be that libs want negro riots. They're interesting, useful, and they never wind up in Beverly Hills or Martha's Vinyard.

Short answer: no.

This grudging admission from the NY Times (which was part of the lynch mob, lest we forget) is as close as it's going to get.

I hope George Zimmerman is found not guilty, because I want to see African Americans make a fool of themselves for the whole world to see when they riot and show White liberals that most African Americans are not calm, collective, non threatening, rational, and well spoken like Thomas Sowell and Morgan Freeman. Why was it okay to suggest that Russians were behind political machinations in Ukraine? Why was it okay to say Syria had a hand in Lebanese politics? Why was it okay to say Pakistanis played behind the scenes in Afghanistan? Why was it okay to say China pulled the strings in North Korea and Burma?

All those claims were okay with the MSM. But it's a big big problem if someone says global Jewish power networks play a role in the politics of other nations. Heck, we can't even say Jews control the media, Wall Street, and government in the US even though they most certainly do.

Headline makes Jews out to be helpless. "Turkish Jews worried after politician links diaspora to protests"

Maybe whites should be afraid as Jewish elites link everything bad in America and the world to white racism. Whites in South Africa are certainly afraid for their lives after so much anti-white vitriol against them by the globalist Jewish media. I don't see any sympathy for what's happening to them.

Sympathy is a political tool. Jews mess with the politics of other nations, but then run headlines where Jews are so helpless and afraid.

Whiskey still does not understand that Central Florida white women are NOT NOT NOT like LA white women. They will not convict Zimmerman.

I believe the prosecution knows that this case is a PaS/POS, resents being pressured to try it, and has done everything reasonably possible to throw it. They let 6 women on the jury to throw off the out-of-towners (e.g. Whiskey) but let in none of Trayvon's tribal group.

I expect Zimmerman will get off. This whole situation is a farce, has been since the beginning.

The only reason Zim is on trial is to get the Feds and the Angry Black Agitators off Sanford, Florida's back.

Sanfordites don't give a sh!t what happened. They just want it over. The one thing they can't do--couldn't do from almost the very beginning-- is drop the charges as unwinnable before the whole psychodrama plays out.

Even those that might be concerned about "justice" aren't that concerned. Face it, if Zim gets off the Feds are just going to take a second bite at the apple and charge him with a civil rights violation at the Feds' expense, (thank God!), and haul the whole featering mess downtown to the Miami Federal Courthouse (thank God!), so who really cares what happens at the Podunk Sanford trial?

The only tricky part for Sanford is that they just can't appear to be so obviously indifferent to the trial that they can be accused of being Evil White Racists, that's all.

The cop who testified obviously knows the score in Sanford or he wouldn't have said Zim looked and sounded truthful. He would have given the proper PC response in order to keep his job.

Sanford got a bit close to the edge by letting the cop make the comment (and then letting it sit for 17 hours!) but I dont think the MSM or Negro Agitators are going to make much of it.

Right now Sanford is just praying that there will be no grounds for declaring a mistrial and they won't have to go through the whole dog and pony all over again.

"Is the prosecution even trying? They seem like they're just going through the motions."

It is entirely possible the prosecution feels like this is a waste of time. The police that actually were on the scene did not file charges against Zimmerman. If I were an assistant DA or AG, I would be pissed if I had to waste my time with this BS.

Canadian Observer said...

It is important to note that prosecutors and even police witnesses have an overriding obligation to seek out the truth during criminal proceedings. Sheer advocacy for one side and Win-at-All-Costs-ism that you see in civil trials are not supposed to be the hallmarks of criminal trials conducted by government agents in the Common Law world. Otherwise, it could be seen as an abuse of process.

The prosecutor here is leaning new information in a new context. This allows him to deal down the charge, should the situation warrant it. The fact that the cop has now given evidence that undermines any reasonable chance of a second degree murder conviction doesn't mean that the prosecutor is doing a bad job. In fact, an argument can be made that he had an ethical obligation to pursue the line of questioning that he did.

The NYT and LAT articles seem to overlook that.

Let's apply Steve's gun control logic to this case.

Liberals are angry that conservatives don't show more racial solidarity and just you let them show trial convict GZ so that rioters won't burn their cities down. Yep, sounds equally unlikely in both cases.

Harry Baldwin said...

I believe the authorities knew there was no case against Zimmerman but felt obligated to bring one. There might be the hope that in the course of a trial, his innocence would become so obvious that the steam will go out of the angry mob. (That may be a forlorn hope as I don't think the prospective rioters are too interested in due process.)

This is from law professor Ann Althouse's blog: "Watching much of the trial these last 3 days, I've come to believe that the prosecution is conducting a theatrical performance in racial reconciliation. It wasn't politically easy to decline to prosecute Zimmerman, even though the evidence showed he could not be convicted, so this prosecution was mounted to demonstrate to the public that Zimmerman should not be convicted. I'm not condoning this use of the power to prosecute. I'm simply observing what is happening. I think the trial is theater, and if it's done right ... the people who got stirred up in Act I can experience catharsis."

In this whole fiasco, I think blame falls foremost on the MSM, which twisted this story to fit The Narrative. This mundane shooting never warranted national attention. It was only by portraying it as an example of The Narrative that an excuse could be found to do so. Once the MSM chose to cover it, they distorted and falsified information so as to stir up as much hysteria as possible. Unfortunately, they are never held accountable for the race-hatred they foment.

I keep hearing that if Zimmerman is acquitted Eric Holder will bring civil rights charges. But what would be the basis of those charges? That only black people are allowed to shoot black people?

For some reason I'm beginning to associate George Zimmerman with Marco Rubio. A pair of hapless dupes.

The elites in the FEDGOV and the MSM want to use this case to send a message. Don't use deadly force to defend yourself when blacks attack; take your beating.

But they chose a poor case to make an example of and they're not willing to use a lot of resources / take risks to fix the trial.

Still, the point is made. Defend yourself using deadly force and you might end up in Zimmerman's shoes. He'd probably have been better off taking his beating. Unfortunately, those beatings sometimes turn fatal.

The state level officials probably have some sort of liberal belief system, but they're more pragmatic about it. They don't want to waste time on a stinker of a case. They recognize the case is bad but they're obligated to press charges because of elite pressure. So they'll do what they can and probably lose in the end, because the case is just that bad.

Meanwhile, as an unlucky pawn in these games, Zimmerman gets his life ruined.

The megaphone holder are not thinking far enough into the future. Imagine what the take away message for whites will be if Zimmerman is convicted:

1. Do not call 911. Calling 911 is racist.
2. Do not have a neighborhood watch program. Neighborhood watch is just another word for profiling.
3. If a black man beats you, let him. Resisting the beating is racist and is a reason to continue to beating.
4. If a black man wants to rob your neighborhood, let him. Trying to prevent theft is profiling and racist.
5. Stay away from blacks as much as possible. To be around blacks is to be guilty of being a racist. The only way to not be a racist is to live in Burlington, VT and mouth the politically correct mantras.

Let's face it -- if the State had objected at the time of the question, it probably would have been correct for the judge to sustain the objection. But 17 hours later? Without giving the defense a similar amount of time to prepare a response? That's ridiculous.

"But early on Tuesday, citing case law, the prosecution successfully argued that Officer Serino’s comments about Mr. Zimmerman’s truthfulness should be disregarded by the jury."

Ann Althouse can only be speaking for disingenuous white liberals. Seriously, read some black folks' blogs on this case. Even the smarter ones (IQ at least 100) have made it clear that they are absolutely not going to accept anything less than a guilty verdict.

In fact, I've yet to read a single African American blog that even hints that Zimmerman may have acted in self defence.

Don't even talk blogs, I've found virtually NO, scarcely a SINGLE black person who has been genuinely in favor of zimmerman or said ANYTHING negative about Trayvon. I'll occasionally, and I mean occasionally see a black make appeals towards some kind of agnosticism (but usually still in favor of Trayvon), but that's about it.

I said virtually though- there is one black person I've seen come out against Trayvon. This tweet, by a hipsterish rapper "SpaceGhostPurrp" posting "RIP Trayvon" over the worst photo of him out there: https://twitter.com/MJRUNSHIT23/status/348700713121103872

That's it. That's really all I've seen. A hipster rapper is the only black person I've seen say anything identifiably negative about Trayvon.

Steve touched on it, but it seems like the judge is just asking for a mistrial if Zimmerman is found guilty. The opening statements were "Objection" "Sustained" to the point where West was apparently thinking "Okay where are we getting our law from here?"

I'd also like to note that a dispatcher has no authority to give orders of any sort. Its the usual par for the course hypocrisy where lefties and blacks hate the police and scream about civil rights until the minute their sacred cow gets slaughtered, then the police can do no wrong.

Speaking of making up law, I'm also curious where I can find this "illegal profiling" statute that Crump gets his panties in a bunch about.
